Alternate name: Sepesváralja. town image [February 2009] US Commission No. SLCE000050 Spisske Podhradie is located NE of Spisska Nova Ves. The isolated rural/agricultural hillside has no sign or marker. Reach by a country lane, access is open to all via a masonry wall and a locking gate. 1-20 19th-20th century marble flat shaped tombstones with Hebrew inscriptions are in original locations. The property is used for a Jewish cemetery and waste dump or abandoned [unclear]. Adjacent properties are agricultural. Occasionally, private visitors stop. Within the cemetery is a pre-burial house. Vegetation is a moderate threat. From Barkany's book Zvidovske Nabozenske Obce Na Slovenska: "Vydava Lel'stvo; VESNA Bratislava; Cemetery 3 km from synagogue, close to former brick factory, 125 meters long, in trapezoidal shape. 20-40m wide. A little hilly. Stones facing east, from gray marble. Oldest and most beautiful from 1846. Some broken. Men and women separate. Stone wall around, 1m wide, topped with concrete panel. Enter from south." Source: Paul Klein pklein5ATgmail.com
