Beth Olem Cemetery: (aka Smith St. Cemetery and Pole Town Cemetery): Smith & Clay Streets; owned by Shaare Zedek in Southfield; founded 1862. Information: Clover Hill Park, 3607 West 14 Mile Road, Royal Oak, MI 48073/ (248) 549-3411. Cemetery located on General Motors plant grounds is open only two days per year during the week before High Holidays. Chapel severely damaged by water was pulled down.

UPDATE: 28120 Six Mile Rd, Livonia, MI. 48152-3662 and 313-421-5680. Founded in 1862, the 2.2-acre site is the only cemetery within the Hamtramck city limits and within the GM Cadillac plant. Single granite flush markers only. Congregation Shaary Zedek owns the site, open with permission only. The oldest tombstone dates from 1876. 1,100 graves exist. The cemetery ceased operation in the 1930s. Clover Hill Cemetery (248-549-3411) has burial records. Picture: [June 2002]
