Alternate names: Skaistkalne [Latv], Schoenberg [Ger], Shimberg and שימבורג [Yid], Skaistkalnė [Lith], Skaystkalne, Skaistkalnes, Myasto Skaystkalne. 56°23' N, 24°39' E , On the Latvia-Lithuania border, 18 miles E of Bauska, 13 miles NNW of Biržai (Birzh), Lithuania. 1900 Jewish population: 429.

Vecumnieki municipality (Latvian: Vecumnieku novads) is a municipality was formed in 2009 by merging Bārbele parish, Kurmene parish, Skaistkalne parish, Stelpe parish, Valle parish and Vecumnieki parish with the administrative center in Vecumnieki.

CEMETERY: Drive toward Vecsaule. About 1 km left and across a field into the woods (a few 100 meters) are the Catholic and Jewish cemeteries located in the forest on the left side and separated by a footpath. Cemetery dates from 1870.
