Jews first settled in the 18th century earned and sold timber floated on the Tisza River.  Some leased lands, were overseers for estate owners, or were merchants and artisans. The Jewish community was subordinate to Mád and later Szerencs. A Chevra Kaddisha and a mikveh functioned. During WWII, several families were deported and were murdered in Kamanets-Podolski. Local Jews were assembled in the synagogue courtyard and shipped to the 170 Jews to Újhely ghetto. Villagers converted the synagogue into a pigpen. 20 survived WWII. ShtetLink. [June 2009]
