Most of Jewish ghetto of 10,000 were killed in the Holocaust, 6,000 from the town itself and the remainder from the surroundings, but are not buried in a mass grave in the cemetery as are the 52 victims killed on July 26, 1941 and buried somewhere within the cemetery. Some escaped via a tunnel and others with the Bielsky partisans. photos of Navahradak cemetery. Prior WWII, the population was 20,000, of which about half were Jewish. Actions killed all but 550 of the approximately 10,000 Jews. Those not killed were sent into slave labor. Navahradak was home to the Harkavy Jewish family, including Alexander Harkavy. Some of the Harkavy family are buried at the Jewish cemetery of Navahrudak. All gravestones were removed by the communist authorities in 1958 to build nearby garages and pavements. Jewish history.
