Jewish dead were buried in Schmieheim until 1880 when they purchased a piece of land "on the Rebgarten" (parcel 3739, land 9.33 a) to create their own cemetery. Desecration of the cemetery occurred in 1921.

• Up to 1880 the cemetery in Schmieheim was used for burials by the Nonnenweier Jewish community (Hundsnurscher/Taddey1968, page215).
• An article dated 27 October 1921 in the Jewish newspaper Der Israelit reported that local Jewish properties had been damaged of late, including the cemetery, where numerous gravestones were toppled, damaged or completely destroyed.
