Agudas Achem Congregation dating from the first half of 20th century used Birmingham cemeteries. Historic marker was dedicated on site where the building stood, but marker calls congregation "Ah Goodies Ah Chem." Town is where Melvin Israel, later Mel Allen ("Voice of the Yankees") got his start. Source: Larry Brook, Deep South Jewish Voice, Birmingham, AL. [June 2001]

The congregation drew Jews from other small towns in the area including Brent, Centreville, and Abernant. [January 2009]
